Infrastructure as Code bootcamp: two weeks from first template to production
A two-week Infrastructure as Code bootcamp in South Africa took an engineering team from Terraform basics to production deployments. How we set it up.
The Infrastructure as Code (IaC) bootcamp at Global Micro Solutions in South Africa was a great success. Global Micro Solutions asked us to train a group of its engineers to design, develop and deploy resources with Infrastructure as Code, so they can ship changes faster while keeping high standards of security, compliance and reliability. We are very pleased with the outcome.
A two-week programme
To make the results meaningful and lasting, we chose a two-week format, which gave the participants enough time to build a solid foundation.
In the first week, the participants learned the basics of Terraform under the expert guidance of our good friend and Terraform “Yoda”, Jelle Broekhuijsen. They were also introduced to Azure DevOps, Git, development workflows and Agile methods, and saw how these tools combine to make teams more efficient and collaborative in real projects.
In the second week, the focus shifted to consolidating what they had learned and taking on real production workloads. Through hands-on exercises, the participants learned to turn their Infrastructure as Code skills into reliable deployments for secure, scalable environments.
Impact and results
The bootcamp helped Global Micro Solutions speed up its deployments and deliver robust, trustworthy solutions with Infrastructure as Code. The combination of Terraform, Azure DevOps and modern development practices prepared the team to ship changes faster while keeping high standards of security, compliance and reliability.
Bring Infrastructure as Code expertise to your team
Do you want your teams to design, develop and deploy robust, reliable infrastructure with confidence? With tools such as Bicep, Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates or Terraform, combined with GitHub or Azure DevOps and Agile practices? We tailor the training to your business and build it around real-world scenarios, so your engineers ship changes faster while keeping high standards of security, compliance and governance.
The same approach now extends to artificial intelligence (AI): we teach teams to let coding agents write infrastructure changes under human review, as described in Requirements in, infrastructure out.
